Project 52: Rationing - End of Project Give Away!

To celebrate the coming close of my project next week, I wanted to sincerely thank all of you who have followed me on this fun and crazy adventure of making one ration recipe a week for the year 2014. I hope I've inspired you to try some of these amazing historical recipes, and if not, I hope I've given you something interesting to read and learn about at least! :-)

As an extra special thank you, I wanted to give away* one of the amazing resources I've depended on for this project - an original copy of the August 1943 Westinghouse Health for Victory Meal Planning Guide!

This issue focuses on the importance of getting "the basic 7" into wartime meals. It has some fabulous food photos and is an intriguing historical look at the ration diet. The best part is that it has tons of recipes!

  1. This is Judi. I wasn't able to follow along all year, but I did go back and look at some of the earlier recipes that I'd missed. One that I wanted to try was Erik's birthday cake with the marshmallow frosting back in January. That sounded good. Probably my favorite that I saw, though, was Pigs in Clover. I'd never heard of such a thing and I love the name.

  2. Well Sarah, you are amazing! I admire you so much. Sadly, I didn't keep up with your blog. I kind of left blog land. But I think everything you do is brilliant and one day I would love to cook my way through your ration blog! Of course, I would have to start a blog and blog about it. I would call my musings Clair & Sarah. You know, like Julie & Julia.

The gelatin post was the most memorable for me as it was the first one I came across and realized I don't know how to cook from scratch, even though I do try to cook from scratch, just not really from scratch scratch. :) But I've enjoyed many. I think two I'd like to try before too long are the pigs in clover: reminds me of the Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society and the tomato soup: That's a favorite around here. Thanks for posting about this, it's fun to learn and such a good service. Well done you.
